How do I find out the host of an existing website?

Go to the URL listed below and type in the domain.com address and check all the boxes. Click the go button and then on your results look under Registrar this is the name and contact information that the domain name is registered through. Then scroll down to the Registration information section and you will see who is registered as the current legal owner of the domain name which should be your bosses name. If it is a name other than your bosses you will have to contact them about buying the domain back. If you do not keep registration of domain name paid up you loose it.If no information shows up means the domain name currently is not registered and you can just re-register it. It would not be the first time people think they own a domain name when it is legally registered to someone else.

You can check ownership by looking up the %26quot;WHOIS%26quot; on the domain. On the page you mention, look at the .com at the bottom of the list and you will see a red rectangle that says %26quot;WHOIS%26quot;.

You have a problem though. It was registered privately which means that the data is not visible.

It looks like it was registered through 1and1.com. If you want to access the domain, go to 1and1.com and then use the domain name as your username (domain.com). You should be able to request a lost password. The password will be mailed to the contact on the account.

If you are purchasing this domain from an individual person and not a registrar company, you will want them to walk you through the acquisition process.
